Construction Safety Resources for Trenching and Shoring Training and Equipment

Many resources are available online relating to trench and excavation safety and training. We have listed the most helpful below.

www.osha.gov 
A comprehensive and authoritative source for all safety and health matters. The website comprehensively covers interpretations of the OSHA standards including Subpart P: Excavations and related safety issues, fall protection for excavations, hazardous atmospheres, soil analysis, and protective systems. Most of the instructive materials are in both English and Spanish and include posters and materials suitable for toolbox talks.

The National Safety Council offers assistance on safety matters whether construction, general industry, transportation, or residential.  State chapters of the NSC regularly offer many types of instructional programs.  Along with the American National Standards Insititue they provide thorough instruction for the safety of all workers.

The American National Standards Insititue is an excellent source of technical data that supports standards promoted by OSHA, National Safety Council, and NIOSH.  ANSI provides technical specifications for Personal Protective Equipment, and engineering expertise on practical methods essential in both general industry and construction site.

The North American Excavation Shoring Asosction, is a site dedicated to zero deaths in excavation safety work. A resource center for everyone involved in excavation safety.

The National Utility Contractors Association provides a wealth of information on utility work, specifically, water and sewer utilities.  They provide a forum for interaction with utility contractors throughout the US.  Their membership is broad based and their safety offerings are relevant and timely. They serve as a watchdog on governmental agencies involved in regulatory activity (OSHA), and political activity that deals with water infrastructure funding, rural water and gas funding initiatives, and clean water matters.  NUCA is an excellent source for political awareness of what Washington and the states are doing to promote sound policies for funding our underground utility infrastructure.
